Vanessa Ivy Rose

Granddaughter of Negro Leagues legend and Baseball Hall of Famer, Norman “Turkey” Stearnes

Vanessa Rose (she/her) is an author, storyteller and educator. In honor of her grandfather’s baseball legacy, she has hosted ABC’s award-winning podcast “Reclaimed: The Forgotten League”, and has written a book entitled: “Hall of Fame DNA: The Legacy of Norman Turkey Stearnes”. Her work has been featured on CNN, GMA3, NPR, Bally Sports, ESPN’s 30 for 30’s podcast channel and more. She has been invited to speak previously for professional baseball organizations, the Detroit Historical Museum and the Hamtramck Historical Museum.

As an athlete, Vanessa has been featured in Sports Illustrated, she played basketball in Barcelona, earned a Division-1 scholarship and one of the collegiate teams she played on has been recognized in the school’s Athletic Hall of Fame. She is an educator and holds multiple degrees including a Master’s in Teaching and a B.A. in Communication.
